Chase concentration

How much of each set's value sits in its top 3 cards. The higher the share, the more a box of that set is a bet on one to three cards rather than on the set.

Method

  1. Every card in the set gets its blended near-mint value, the same number its card page shows. Modelled values carry no weight once an observed one exists, and a set is only ranked when at least 95% of its cards have an observed price.
  2. Set value is the sum over all cards, one copy each. Top-3 share is the three most valuable cards' values over that sum.
  3. HHI is the sum of every card's squared share, from near 0 (value spread evenly) to 1 (one card is the set). It is the standard concentration index and it does not depend on where the "top" is cut.

Reading it: a high share means the set's sealed product is, in value terms, a lottery ticket on a handful of cards, and a move in the chase drags the whole set with it, in both directions. A low share means the value is spread and the set trades more like a basket. This says nothing about whether any card is cheap or dear, only how much rides on it. One copy per card means print-run differences between rarities are not weighted; a set's real pull-weighted value is a different number, and the box-EV screen is where it belongs.
