Phantasmal Flames: three cards, one Pokémon, 84% of the set

The concentration screen's most lopsided set is the newest one in it. Mega Charizard X ex in three rarities carries 84% of Phantasmal Flames' raw value, and the rarest of the three sells graded for more than the most expensive.

The figures

Every card in the set has an observed TCGplayer market price (read 15 September 2026); together they sum to $1,176.70. Three cards, all Mega Charizard X ex, account for 83.8% of that:

  • 125/094, Special Illustration Rare: $704.77 raw, 59.9% of the set on its own. PSA 10 population 31,220 in BetterPop's 9 September build, the largest of any Mega Evolution card in the catalog. PSA 10 copies averaged $2,250 on eBay over 1,946 sales in 90 days.
  • 130/094, Mega Hyper Rare: $257.30 raw, 21.9% of the set. PSA 10 population 1,895. PSA 10 copies averaged $2,803 over 204 sales.
  • 109/094, Ultra Rare: $23.71 raw, 2.0%. PSA 10 population 20,241; PSA 10 average $183 over 1,497 sales.

The Herfindahl index for the set is 0.41. Black & White, the previous leader, sits at 0.19 with 73% in its top three; Lost Origin, added the same day, is at 0.39 with 78%.

Two readings, both on the page

The first is the concentration screen's: a set whose value rests on one Pokémon is fragile in one direction. Whatever happens to Mega Charizard X ex happens to the set.

The second comes from the pop-adjusted screen. The Mega Hyper Rare has a raw price a third of the Special Illustration Rare's, and a PSA 10 population one sixteenth of it. In a PSA 10 slab the order flips: $2,803 against $2,250. Raw prices are paying for the artwork; graded prices are paying for the count. Neither figure is a recommendation. They are two prices for two different things, and the screens keep them apart.

Over the 30 days to 15 September the Mega Evolution era's tracked cards moved a median −10% at raw market; the other eras moved between −3% and +3%. That is the subject of a separate note.
