Region spread: the same card in Sweden and the US, and what the gap does and does not include

Screen 4 puts the Tradera asking median next to the US market for 1,364 cards. The method, the two biases it states, the printing rule, and why nothing is subtracted for postage or tax.

Postage, import VAT and duty keep regional card markets apart for years. Screen 4 measures the gap between one of them and the US, before any of that friction is paid, and says exactly what it left out.

The Swedish side

Tradera is Sweden's marketplace, and it has a public API. For each card the site searches its name and number, "Charizard 4/102", and reads one page of fifty live listings. Then every listing has to earn its place:

  • the title must contain this card's number and set total exactly once; two number patterns mean a lot of several cards
  • it must not mention a grading company, as a word or glued to a grade like "Ace4"
  • it must not name another printing: 1st Edition, First edition, the Swedish 1:a upplagan, or Shadowless
  • it must not name a reprint set that reuses the number, such as Celebrations Classic Collection
  • it must not mention a non-English language, a replica, a metal card, a display frame, or damage

A price counts when the listing has a Buy-It-Now, or when an auction has at least three bids and ends within 24 hours. A bid with days to run is a lower bound, not a price: on 13 September 2026 Rocket's Mewtwo #14 stood at 80 kronor after 13 bids with days left, beside asks of 269 and 1,855. Asks more than four times above or below the median are dropped once there are four or more.

The first search, Base Set Charizard, returned 50 listings and kept 23. The dropped ones included Celebrations reprints, PSA slabs, a metal replica, a multi-card lot, an Italian copy and a display frame.

The US side

The latest observed TCGplayer near-mint market price for the card, in dollars, via PokemonPriceTracker. Modelled values never count.

Printing

Both sides are the unlimited print. The US figure is the unlimited variant even where the TCGplayer product leads with 1st Edition, and a Swedish title that says 1st Edition or Shadowless is dropped before the median. A live read of Neo Genesis Typhlosion #17 on 14 September 2026 showed sellers using "1st edition", "[1st Edition]" and "First edition"; every one was dropped and an "Unlimited" title was kept. Rows from the seven seeded sets that had a 1st Edition run carry a note saying so. A 1st Edition copy whose title says nothing cannot be told apart, and it would raise the Swedish side, never lower it.

The spread

Kronor become dollars at the European Central Bank's daily reference rate stored with the row. Spread is the Tradera median in dollars over the US market, minus one. Most negative first. Cards with fewer than three matching listings are listed separately, unranked.

The eBay sold column

Since 14 September 2026 the screen also shows, beside the market, the median of eBay's completed sales of raw copies of the card over the last 90 days, via the same provider, and a second spread against it. Both sides of that spread are mixed-condition, which removes the near-mint bias of the market comparison. It carries a bias of its own: eBay's bucket does not separate printings, so on a set that had a 1st Edition run the sold median mixes both prints and reads high against a Swedish median that has 1st Edition dropped. Charizard #4 on 14 September 2026: US market $869, eBay sold median $400 over 131 sales, Tradera median 3,952 kronor, about $408, over 15 asks. Against the market the Swedish asks sit 53% below; against what eBay buyers paid, 2% above. The ranking stays on the market spread; the sold column is shown, not ranked. The same three figures appear on every card page under Signals.

What is not subtracted

Nothing for postage, Swedish or US import VAT, duty or marketplace fees. Tradera's search results carry no shipping cost, and a buyer's tax position is their own. The screen states the gross gap and leaves the sum to the reader rather than assuming a number.

The two biases, stated

Asks are not sales. A Swedish ask nobody meets is not a Swedish price, and asks run above what sells, which is why every Tradera row is flagged an estimate. And Swedish titles rarely state condition while the US figure is near-mint, so a mixed-condition Swedish median reads low against it. A negative spread is partly that.

The first full read

On 13 September 2026, 1,646 of 1,912 cards had matching Swedish listings, 1,364 with three or more, and 255 of those were asked below the US market. The deepest gaps were thin, three to seven asks on vintage holos such as Rocket's Mewtwo #14 and Rocket's Zapdos #15 from Gym Challenge, where the US figure is itself a low-volume market. Those rows are where the two stated biases bite hardest, and the screen says so before the ranking.
